Seven Tips for Safe
Surfing
-
Never tell anyone on the internet
your full name, age, e-mail or personal website address, home address, telephone or
mobile number, where you go to school or send photographs of yourself without asking a parent or carer
first. If a
website asks you to register with them and you have to fill out an e-mail
form, always ask for an adult's opinion first.
-
Never post your personal
details (as listed above) on a Website, Bulletin Board, Guestbook or Chatroom
without asking a parent or carer first as the information you supply can be made
available to anyone, anywhere and at anytime.
-
Never ever meet anyone you've met over
the internet without a parent's or carer's permission and even then make
sure you have an adult with you. You can never be sure that people on the internet are telling the truth
about who they are and why they want to meet you.
-
Always tell an adult
(like your parents or a teacher) about any unsuitable material, nasty,
threatening or bad language received via e-mails or whilst surfing the
Internet.
-
Don't accept anything from
strangers including e-mails and attachments such as photos, download links
or website addresses
as they might have viruses or unwanted or unsuitable
messages inside.
-
Always tell an adult
(like your parents or a teacher) if someone online says something that makes you
feel upset, uncomfortable or unsafe, and leave the Chatroom or Website
(including Bulletin Boards, Message Boards & Guestbooks) immediately.
-
Always try to keep yourself as anonymous as you can when using the
internet.
