The Knowledge Creating School
In his paper, 'The Knowledge-Creating School', David Hargreaves proposes that schools are key players in the generation of better professional knowledge: of what constitute the most effective teaching and learning practices. The problem is that, much professional knowledge about teaching and learning is locked in the heads of individual teachers and protected by the privacy of their classrooms…it is tacit, this is, in the form of practical know-how that is not easily articulated. Hargreaves highlights key features characterising knowledge-creating institutions including:
Successful schools will also have developed a variety of approaches to ensure that the outcomes of this work can be effectively validated and then disseminated both within the institution and beyond. |

The Research and
Development Site is devoted to the model of practitioner research that
has been established over the last five years at Soham Village College;
showcasing the research projects which have been completed in addition
to access to ongoing research projects and resource development.
Visitors to this site are warmly welcomed to download reports, materials
or to make contact with the researchers themselves. |
The Teaching and
Learning Framework Site is dedicated to the sharing of teachers’
professional experience. The aim is for staff within each faculty area
to develop a framework embodying best practice for learning in each
faculty area. These criteria of excellence are the subject of continuing
development within each faculty in the College and are also used in an
ongoing Faculty Review system. |
