Which
course is right for you?
Beginners Year 1
No knowledge of language or knowledge limited to greetings and social
phrases.
Improvers Year 2
These courses will refresh and extend previous knowledge and build confidence.
An understanding of how to form the present tense is needed.
Students will cover past and immediate future tense.
Intermediate Year 3 and Year 4
Competent working knowledge of present and past tense required or an OCN
Level 1 qualification. Completion of this course will be at a level equivalent to a GCSE Grade A-C.
Advanced Year 5 onwards
This class is for those above Intermediate level who wish to build on their conversational, reading and interpretational skills..
Computing
ITQ NVQ Levels 2 & 3 (full
funding may be available, see below)
ITQ is the new qualification for IT Users and was developed by employers to
provide you with an up-to-date IT user qualification tailored to the needs
of business and the individual. It is aimed at individuals who use IT skills
in their day-to-day work. This is a work-oriented qualification with a
variety of units to choose from. Further information is available from the
college. FREE
places are available to L2 candidates who do not currently have a full Level
2 qualification (i.e. a Level 2 NVQ or 5 GCSE's at A-C) and to L3 candidates
who do not currently have a full Level 3 qualification (i.e. a Level 3 NVQ
or A Levels )please contact the college for details.)
CLAIT 2006
Computer Literacy and Information Technology (CLAIT) is a Level 1
course for those who already have basic computing skills but wish
to learn more.
There is a choice of 11 different modules, including Spreadsheets, Databases,
E-mail, Desktop Publishing, Presentations, Internet, Web Page Creation
and Computing Fundamentals.
A core module covering File
Management and Wordprocessing must be completed together with two other
modules to gain certificate and four other modules
to gain a diploma. CLAIT exam fees start from £30 for a certificate.
CLAIT Plus
This is a Level 2 course for those who have already achieved a Level 1
qualification in computing. Students must complete a core module covering
Integration together with two other modules to receive a certificate and
four to achieve a diploma. There is a choice of seven other modules including
Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentations, Desktop Publishing, Web Page Design
and E-Mail. Please enquire for exam fees.

Learning & Development NVQ
Level 3 (full funding may be available, see below)
The Learning &Development NVQ is intended for individuals who deliver
learning and development programmes and those who support learners. This is
a work-oriented qualification and is suitable for those currently in work
either paid or voluntary. There area variety of units to choose from.

currently have a Level 2 qualification (i.e. a level 2 NVQ or 5 GCSE's at

Administration NVQ Levels
2 & 3 (full funding may be available, see below)
The Administration NVQ is aimed at those already in work undertaking a
range of administrative tasks which demand a degree of personal
responsibility but which are generally supervised by others. There are 5
mandatory and 3 optional units. Further information is available from the
Community offices. Candidates who do not currently have a Level 2
qualification (i.e. a level 2 NVQ or 5 GCSE's at A-C may enrol for FREE,
please contact the college for details.)
Customer Service NVQ
Levels 2 & 3 (full funding may be available, see below)
The Customer Service NVQ is aimed at those already in work in a customer
service role who wish to gain a formal qualification. Further information is
available from the Community offices. Candidates who do not currently have a
Level 2 qualification (i.e. a level 2 NVQ or 5 GCSE's at A-C may enrol for
FREE, please contact the college for details.)
Which course is right for you?
Deciding on the right course to study can be difficult. We have provided
further details on course levels below to help you make the right decision.
Entry Level
These courses provide first steps into learning and do not require any
previous experience or knowledge.
Level 1
These are also known as foundation levels and are equivalent to a GCSE
Grade D to E. These can used as a progression to Level 2. A general
level of education plus an interest and enthusiasm for the subject is
needed.
Level 2
These courses are equivalent to a GCSE Grade A
to C. Students embarking
on a Level 2 course will need to have gained a Level 1 qualification
or have equivalent experience.
Level 3
These are equivalent to GCE A-Levels and all Level 3 advanced courses
can lead to Higher Education. A successful completion of a Level 2 course
will be required or equivalent experience.
NVQ's are available to anyone at any age or
stage of their career - and there are no entry qualifications.
How are NVQ's achieved?
NVQ's are achieved through assessment and
training.
Assessment will normally be through
on-the-job observation and questioning. Candidates have to have evidence to
prove they have the competence to meet the NVQ standards.
Assessors 'sign-off' units when achieved -
they test candidates' underpinning knowledge, understanding and work-based
performance to make sure they can demonstrate competence in the workplace.
